Picture the ordinary failure case: you open a project database on a train, the signal drops, and the page loads while a related subpage does not. That result is consistent with Notion’s current offline contract, because a downloaded parent does not automatically download its subpages.
Neyrotex did not run a controlled phone test for this analysis. We did not measure cold start, sync recovery, battery use, AI accuracy, or lost edits; the score below reflects published capabilities, stated limitations, pricing, security documentation, update activity, and current storefront evidence.
Notion mobile offline is a chosen set, not a full mirror
Notion says every workspace member on every plan can download individual pages in the desktop or mobile apps. Paid plans add automatic downloads for recently visited and favorited pages, while the browser still requires a connection.
The boundary matters more than the headline. Subpages need their own downloads, downloaded databases include the first 50 rows of the first view, and device-level downloads do not propagate to another phone or laptop.
Before the signal drops
- Download the main page and every subpage you will need.
- Put the most useful database view first and download important rows beyond the initial 50.
- Confirm the pages appear under Settings → Offline on that device.
- Leave AI blocks, embeds, forms, buttons, sharing, and permission changes for a connected session.
Offline editing covers essential blocks, new pages, and downloaded content. Notion excludes advanced blocks that require network services, including AI blocks, embeds, forms, and buttons, and it disables sharing or permission changes until the device reconnects.
The most important warning comes from Notion itself: text conflicts receive automatic resolution attempts, but parallel non-text edits can collide. If two people change the same select property while offline, only one value may survive.
On an office floor before a trip, a team member can mark a short paper page list beside the phone, then verify each download on the device. That checkpoint makes the invisible offline boundary concrete without pretending a generated screen proves the app state.

Mobile editing works, but the desktop still owns administration
The main Notion app can read, edit, and comment on workspace content on iOS and Android. Mobile navigation exposes search, inbox, page creation, workspaces, nested pages, database views, history, export, and sharing.
Several structural actions remain desktop or browser jobs. Mobile cannot select several blocks at once, import data, change account information, delete or leave a workspace, edit security settings, or manage plan and billing settings.
That division makes sense for short capture and review sessions. It becomes friction when a phone is the only device available and the task crosses from editing content into managing the workspace around it.
Notion AI on mobile adds capability and another contract
The main Notion app offers AI chat, camera, and voice entry points through a home-screen widget, plus iOS shortcuts through Siri, Spotlight, and the Action button. Notion AI can answer from permitted workspace pages and connected apps, generate or edit content, work with files, and create database content.
Continuous AI access is not part of the ordinary Free or Plus value proposition. Notion lists limited trial responses for those plans, while Business costs $20 per seat per month on the web and includes the main Agent experience; Enterprise uses custom pricing.
New credit controls took effect for existing Business and Enterprise workspaces on November 2, 2026. Owners can inspect Standard, Select, and purchased Notion credit use, set member limits, and decide whether high-consumption models or agents can spend workspace credits.
Privacy is permission-aware, not local-only
Notion states that AI respects the requesting user’s existing workspace permissions and does not widen access. It creates and stores embeddings for workspace search, sends relevant content and prompts to contracted model or inference providers, and encrypts customer data in transit.
Notion and its AI providers do not use customer data for model training by default. The retention line still varies by plan: the pricing page lists 30-day provider retention for Free, Plus, and Business, while Enterprise uses zero-retention providers for most models and keeps non-zero-retention models disabled by default.
Workspace owners can turn off AI web search, require confirmation before external web requests, control available models, and manage connectors. Those controls are useful, but they belong to an online administrative workflow and do not make AI an offline feature.
Price and device support can change the answer
Notion’s web pricing lists Free at $0, Plus at $10 per seat per month, Business at $20, and Enterprise by quote. Mobile storefront billing can cost more; the US App Store listed Plus at $11.99 and Business at $23.99 per month when checked.
The public compatibility documents also disagree. Notion’s help center lists iOS 17 and Android 8 as minimums, while the current US App Store listing requires iOS 18; buyers should trust the storefront shown on the target device before planning a rollout.
Support activity is strong on paper. Notion shipped an October agent update, faster mobile chat claims, model controls, a credit dashboard, and continuing offline work, but vendor claims such as “50% faster” are not independent performance measurements.
Notion mobile score: 78/100
Pages, databases, collaboration, offline editing, exports, widgets, and AI cover a broad mobile job. Administration and some blocks still require a connection or desktop.
Mobile capture and navigation are coherent, but users must plan offline pages, subpages, database rows, and device-specific downloads.
The free workspace is capable and offline works on every plan. Continuous AI and automatic offline downloads push useful team workflows toward paid tiers.
Permissions, encryption, no-training defaults, admin controls, and published retention rules are positives. AI still sends selected content to subprocessors and zero retention is mainly an Enterprise benefit.
Notion documents conflict handling and its limits, but Neyrotex has no controlled evidence for sync recovery, latency, battery, or defect frequency.
Recent mobile, offline, AI, and control-plane updates show active investment. Store and help-center compatibility drift costs one point.
Who should use it from a phone
Choose Notion mobile if your phone is a capture, reading, approval, and light-editing companion to a larger workspace. Before travel, download a small page set, place the useful database view first, and reconnect before several people edit the same non-text properties.
Look elsewhere if you need a complete offline workspace mirror, offline AI, or phone-only administration. Teams that store sensitive material should also review retention, connectors, web search, model controls, and workspace permissions before enabling AI.
